Description
Flak Cannon for my Red Alert Zero mod.
I originally was opting for an upward-facing only gun with the gunner directly behind (a more symmetrical design), with the possibility of the gun firing as a mortar.
But needing a medium-defense gun against ground, talking with VMetallic- we started leaning towards a direct-fire cannon that simply aims up and down (exactly the same concept the German Army used in WW2).
Although unlike the 88 gun, which was an excellent anti-tank cannon but low altitude AA gun, this version is somewhat the reverse- opting for lighter shells that can travel to high altitudes- but still capable of fair damage against tanks.
Also, the shells can be airburtsed, damaging groups of infantry.
Most likely, the gun would need to switch between two modes, whether it was going to be shooting air or ground (as cranking a heavy gun is no quick feat!)
Because the gun must aim down, the gunner would need to be seated on the side. Not wanting a lopsided gun, I quickly figured the perfect way to get some symmetry back would be to mount the Radar and a box of ammunition on the other side!

You know this reminds of a Harkonnen base defense idea I always had. Basically a stationary cannon that had targeting computers so advanced it could shoot down ornithopters.
